Trump will nominate Heather Wilson to serve as secretary of the Air Force

President Donald Trump plans to nominate former Rep. Heather Wilson (R-NM) as Secretary of the Air Force.

Wilson represented New Mexico's 1st District in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1998 to 2009. She would be the first U.S. Air Force Academy graduate to become Secretary of the Air Force, according to a White House Press release.

"Her distinguished military service, high level of knowledge, and success in so many fields gives me great confidence that she will lead our nation's Air Force with the greatest competence and integrity," Trump said.

Wilson was an officer in Europe during the Cold War and served on the National Security Council staff under President George H.W. Bush.

Rep. Steve Pearce (R-NM) cheered the news.
