WATCH | Valrhona Chocolates' second-annual Hot Chocolate Festival kicked off Jan. 18 in New York City, and it's exactly what your winter needed.
Gathering Wednesday night at Ladurée bake shop in SoHo, some of the city’s top pastry and bakery chefs prepared high-end hot chocolate for revelers attending the sold-out event.
Chefs from the following restaurants and businesses attended the kickoff event and/or were expected to participate in future weeks:
- La Maison du Chocolat
- Mah-Ze-Dahr Bakery
- Sugar and Plumm
- Dominique Ansel Kitchen
- Epicerie Boulud
- The St. Regis Hotel
- Patisserie Chanson
Milk, white and dark chocolates are mixed with flavors ranging from ginger to orange.
With a flagship store at 377 Amsterdam Ave., Sugar and Plumm served its decadent hot chocolate with colorful, flavored marshmallows collected in matching bowls made of chocolate.
Continuing through Feb. 5, the festival is fundraising for Valrhona's Clean Water Project, improving living conditions for the cocoa-producing community of Los Ranchos, Peru. Marine Leman, a Valrhona spokeswoman, told Circa the festival had already raised thousands of dollars toward the cause.
