Obama said he wanted to thank the people he served before writing the traditional well-wishes for the incoming president.
Last week, a letter written by former President George W. Bush's daughters to the Obama children went viral.

Back in December, Sean Spicer, incoming press secretary for Donald Trump, said Obama had been "unbelievably gracious" during the transition.
Obama also spent much of his farewell address thanking the American people.
