A shooting during an EDM festival in Mexico left five people dead

A shooting during the BPM electronic music festival at a Mexican resort on Monday left five people dead.

The shooting occurred around 2:30 a.m. outside the Blue Parrot nightclub, one of the venues of the 10-day festival in Playa del Carmen near Cancun. It was the festival's closing event.

Quintana Roo state attorney general Miguel Angel Pech said a man with a gun was originally denied access because of his weapon.

The gunman started shooting at another person inside, and security personnel were shot as they tried to stop the shooting. Three of the dead were part of the security detail, officials said.

Pech said it was not a terrorist attack, but another shooting occurred near the nightclub, and officials are investigating to see if the two are related.

The shooting triggered a stampede as people fled the club, killing one woman in the process.

The festival announced the shooting on Facebook.

One Twitter user captured the aftermath.

Here's another look at the scene of the shooting.
