Mike Pence called John Lewis' criticism of Trump 'disappointing'


Vice President-elect Mike Pence joined President-elect Donald Trump on Sunday in criticizing Rep. John Lewis, a civil rights icon, for calling Trump an "illegitimate president."

In an interview on CBS News' Face the Nation, Pence said, "To say that Donald Trump will not be a legitimate president is deeply disappointing to me."

Mike Pence, on Trump's criticism of Lewis

Host John Dickerson asked Pence if it was fair for Trump to criticize Lewis, considering his role in the "birther" movement that questioned the legitimacy of President Obama. Pence deflected, saying he "honored the sacrifice [Lewis] made" and reiterated that his comments were "disappointing."

Pence also dismissed allegations that the Trump campaign was in contact with Russia.

He also addressed the moving the press corps from the White House press room.
