Watch| Ten-year-old King Strayhorn suffers from sickle cell disease and his mother, Lakiesha, has been documenting the journey on social media to raise awareness for her son's illness.
Sickle cell is not pretty by any means. It's very ugly, but we have to show the truth and if it's the ugly truth about it, then that's what it is,
According to affiliate WKRC, King has battled this illness his entire life. The Strayhorns have organized a support group for children who are battling the same disease.
"The ugly truth"
While some have been critical of the shared videos, his mother said it's hard for people to understand the pain until they see it for themselves. She added, "Sickle cell is not pretty by any means. It's very ugly, but we have to show the truth and if it's the ugly truth about it, then that's what it is."
"His clothing line called 'Warrior'"
Strayhorn has been able to channel his energy in launching his own clothing line called "Warrior" which is designed for women, men and children.
The line was named "Warrior" because of the courage King has displayed through his struggles. He hopes that his clothing line inspire others to be brave and courageous as well. King launched his business last month at a fashion show at Rothenburg Elementary school.
Strayhorn is on morphine and other medications to control his pain. That's helping, his mother said, but the ten-year-old remains hospitalized. His mother compared her son's pain to shards of broken glass passing through the bloodstream.
