Red light camera company, American Traffic Solutions, released footage of the Worst Red Light Runners of 2016 in Florida.
American Traffic Solutions hopes to help drive home an important message with their annual public safety videos by highlighting the worst red-light running crashes every year.
These crashes are difficult to watch, but we want drivers to realize what could happen when someone recklessly runs a red light. Running a red light to save a little time is not worth the risk of causing a potentially deadly collision.
“ATS expects this video will make the public more aware of what is at stake when someone runs a red light. We encourage all drivers to stop on red.”
According to ATS, one in three Americans know someone who has been injured or killed in a red-light running crash. 7,799 people were killed in red-light running collisions from 2004-2013.
Half of the deaths in red-light running crashes are pedestrians, bicyclists and occupants in other vehicles.
U.S. and worldwide studies show a 25% to 30% reduction in injury crashes at locations with red-light safety cameras. Check out the studies conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety at www.iihs.org.
