Police responded to a home in Dundalk, Maryland Sunday night after receiving a report of a domestic disturbance, which all started when someone took a bite out a grilled cheese sandwich.
Baltimore County police spokesman Shawn Vinson said 55-year-old Daniel Brian Blackwell was eating with his wife and three teens when the dispute began around 5 p.m.
Blackwell's wife told police that her husband shot at her through the basement floor after "he became angry when she took a bite out of his grilled cheese sandwich."
The woman said she went to the basement to check on her husband and found him surrounded by ammunition. After three more shots came through the kitchen floor, the man's wife and three teens fled the home.
Blackwell then barricaded himself inside the home.
From there, Blackwell engaged in a three-hour standoff with police.
The standoff ended when Blackwell, who was wearing a holster of ammunition around his waist but not carrying a weapon, stepped out onto the porch. Police used pepper balls to bring him into custody.
After the altercation, police found a loaded gun with a chambered round placed just inside the front door. Officials also recovered 15 firearms from the home.
Blackwell was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
He was charged with attempted first and second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and various firearms violations.
