Halsey opened up about undergoing multiple surgeries to treat endometriosis

Singer-songwriter Halsey told fans Saturday that she's recovering after undergoing multiple surgeries to treat endometriosis, which is a disease that affects millions of women, according to ABC News

The Mayo Clinic describes endometriosis as "an often painful disorder in which tissue that normally lines the inside of your uterus the endometrium grows outside your uterus." It often causes pain, cramping and infertility in some cases.

The singer, whose birth name is Ashley Frangipane, posted an Instagram photo of herself in a hospital bed.

"Today I braved multiple terrifying surgeries. The most important of which being the surgery that would hopefully treat my endometriosis," Halsey wrote in the caption. "For those of you who have followed this battle of mine or who may suffer with it yourself, you know the extremes to which it can be mentally exhausting and physically painful."

The 22-year-old added that she was going to be in "excruciating" pain for awhile because of the various procedures she endured.

Still, she offered an encouraging word for others who are suffering from "chronic pain or a debilitating disease."

"Please know that I have found time to live a crazy, wild, rewarding life AND balance my treatment and I hope so much in my heart that you can too," she wrote.

Halsey concluded by letting fans know she likely won't be on social media for awhile but added that her fans give her the "strength and stamina" to keep going.
