Southern states are gearing up for a blustery and icy weekend

Snow is expected to pound U.S. areas this weekend that are not traditionally accustomed, or even equipped, to handle the conditions, according to the Weather Channel.

Southern cities are already gearing up for Winter Storm Helena,  issuing warnings and watches throughout Birmingham, Atlanta, Greenville, Charlotte, and Raleigh-Durham. Other advisories have also hit the Oklahoma and Texas panhandle.

Ice accumulation will primarily hit central Mississippi and South Carolina.

But parts of North Carolina and SE Virginia could see six or more inches of snow.

Airlines are already gearing up for delays, as Helena storms the Rocky Mountains.

Others are less concerned about traveling, and more so about their furry friends.
