Last year had its ups and downs, but no one probably wanted 2016 to end more than Mariah Carey did while performing on ABC's "Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve With Ryan Seacrest."
The pop star was the headliner for the event and was scheduled to perform at 11:30 p.m. before the ball dropped in Times Square, according to Billboard.
Carey's audio track malfunctioned while she was lip syncing some of her biggest hits like "Emotions" and "We Belong Together."
At one point during "Emotions," she stopped singing and had the audience finish the lyrics for her.
“I’m trying to be a good sport here,” Carey said as she paced back and forth across the stage.
Later during her performance, a visibly frustrated Carey said, "It just don't get any better."
Then she walked off the stage, escorted by her backup dancers.
One of Carey's representatives confirmed to the Associated Press that there were technical difficulties during her New Year's Eve performance.
A social media firestorm erupted following her performance.
Carey seemed to shake it off, later tweeting, "S*** happens. Have a happy and healthy new year everybody! Here's to making more headlines in 2017."
