Ryan Seacrest got stuck in a Times Square elevator beneath the New Year's ball

The man in charge of counting us down into the new year got stuck in an elevator below the famous Times Square ball.

Ryan Seacrest was on his way to Good Morning America Friday to reveal the ball, when he got trapped in an elevator for about 40 minutes, according to Entertainment Weekly.

"Hi, from underneath the ball in Times Square," Seacrest said in an Instagram video. "We’re stuck in the elevator, everybody! We’re supposed to be on Good Morning America, but we can’t get there, so ring the alarm."

"How did you spend your final moments of 2016?" Seacrest jokes in a second video.

Meanwhile, his staff was trying to establish contact with the control room to notify them of the circumstances.

Thankfully, members of the New York City Fire Department rescued them in time for Seacrest to appear on the show.

On Good Morning America, Seacrest joked that he may have to take the stairs on New Year's Eve, just in case.
