A NYPD officer was suspended after posting a photo of a family in handcuffs on Snapchat

An New York City police officer was suspended after posting mocking photos of a family in handcuffs to Snapchat.

Kimberly Santiago and her family were handcuffed last week  as police searched their Brooklyn apartment while pointing guns at them, CNN reports. They were looking for a man called JD Blue.

The photos were captioned "Merry Christmas it's NYPD!" and "Warrant Sweeps it's still a party smh."  The officer who posted the photos was not publicly identified.

Here's a look at one of the offending snaps.

My mom almost got a heart attack. I told them, 'Leave me in handcuffs but take my mother's off, please.'

Santiago said her family was in handcuffs for three hours. Police said they were handcuffed "so no one will go crazy or act up." They did not find the man they were searching for, though Santiago was given a ticket for possession of marijuana.  She filed a police complaint after finding the photos were published and some household goods were broken.

Santiago was told the officer was suspended without pay for 30 days.

Critics thought the officer should have been fired instead.
