Death and Donald Trump top list of 20 most-edited Wikipedia articles. Read the whole list.

Wikipedia released its list of the most-edited articles of 2016 on Thursday. The leader isn't Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton. It's death. Specifically, deaths in 2016.

Before you throw your arms up about 2016 being the worst year ever, "deaths in ___" has taken the top spot every year since 2007, according to The Verge.

This year it did so by a convincing margin of nearly 10,000 edits over the second-most popular page -- which was of course Donald Trump.

Why was death so high?

The rankings were without a doubt shaped by the number of prominent deaths this year, including David Bowie, Prince, Fidel Castro and Muhammad Ali.

While it's impossible to determine why a given page drew a lot of edits, the number of edits to Wikipedia pages is generally a good indicator of which issues the world cared about the most in 2016. (This does not necessarily explain the intense interest in #7, "Bailando 2015," the Argentine TV dance competition.)

Sadly, this hilarious edit of a photo of a man and a penguin did not make the cut.
