Lena Dunham has apologized after coming under fire for a joke she made on her podcast earlier this week where she said that she had wished she had an abortion, reports CBS News.
The "Girls" star posted her apology to Instagram, writing, “I truly hope a distasteful joke on my part won’t diminish the amazing work of all the women who participated ... I would never, ever intentionally trivialize the emotional and physical challenges of terminating a pregnancy.”
On her show, "Women of the Hour," Dunham recounted the time she visited a Texas Planned Parenthood and a girl there asked her to talk about Dunham's experience with abortion. Dunham was quick to say that she had not had an abortion, an action that she says she felt furthered the stigma around the procedure.
Looking back at the moment, Dunham said, "Now I can say that I still haven’t had an abortion, but I wish I had.”
Dunham's full apology was posted to Instagram late on Tuesday.
But many online aren't willing to forgive her just yet.
