The widow of the man who carried out a mass shooting at a Florida gay nightclub has filed a petition in California to change the name of their son, who is partly named after his father, reports CBS News

Omar Mateen's wife, Noor Salman, filed in Contra Costa County, California. A hearing is scheduled for February. Records do not provide any other information.

Salman moved to Contra Costa County near San Francisco after her husband was killed in the shootout that ensued after his attack.

During the shootout, Mateen pledged his allegiance to ISIS.

Pulse nightclub opened early Monday morning for a small ceremony marking the six-month anniversary of the attack. Survivors, staff, and family members of the victims met for a moment of silence at 2:02 a.m., the time that Mateen opened fire.

The news quickly made its way around social media.

The attack is still a hot topic of discussion online.
