Former NBA player Lamar Odom voluntarily checked himself into a rehab facility near San Diego, seeking treatment for chemical dependence, according to USA Today.
Odom didn't suffer a relapse, but told a source told US Weekly he "did it for his kids" and wanted to make sure he stays sober and on "on the right path."
It was his own decision. He wanted to work on his mental and physical health for the next chapter of his life.
The decision comes more than a year after the former Los Angeles Laker player was found unconscious in a Nevada home attached to Dennis Hof's Love Ranch South in October 2015.
Odom nearly died after he binged cocaine and sexual performance enhancement drugs. He was placed in a medically induced coma.
At the time, doctors told his estranged wife, Khloe Kardashian, that he only had a matter of hours to live.
However, the athlete defied the odds and underwent months of rehabilitation. While E! News reports that he has suffered some setbacks during his recovery, Odom is now focused on living a healthier life.
The news of Odom's rehab check-in comes during the same week his divorce from Kardashian is expected to be finalized.
The two were married on national TV in September 2009 and Kardashian filed for divorce in 2013. Kardashian called off their divorce after Odom's near-fatal overdose in 2015, but reinitiated it in May, according to People magazine.
