An Oregon man got 6 months in jail for revenge porn

An Oregon man was sentenced last week in what's believed to be the state's first prosecution and conviction under the new revenge porn law.

Benjamin J. Barber, 31, was sentenced to six months in jail and five years probation in Washington County Circuit Court, according to a release from the Washington County Sheriff's Office

Barber was arrested in July 2016 after he posted pornographic videos to adult sites of himself with a former partner.

The former partner told authorities the videos were made with consent while the person was in an "intimate" relationship with Barber. However, Barber uploaded the videos without the former partner's knowledge after their relationship ended.

KOIN News spoke with Barber after his sentence was handed down.

“I understand people are going to think I look creepy,” Barber told KOIN.

He also defended his actions, explaining that he and his former partner both produce porn commercially.

Barber continued, telling KOIN: "So if I go saying that I want to make porn, get paid for making porn and then complain that the porn I asked people to pay me for is then public, do I have a right to be embarrassed?”

Sgt. Bob Ray with the Washington County Sheriff's Office explained to KOIN that because Barber posted the sexually explicit video without his former partner's permission, he legally violated Oregon's revenge porn law.
