A man in Florida died after riding a motorized bike into a turtle at 3 am

A man in Florida died Wednesday after riding his motorized bike at 3:16 a.m. and hitting a box turtle, reports USA Today.

Brevard County Fire Rescue crews were dispatched to the scene of the accident after the man's body was found in the roadway.

The man suffered a head injury and was dead when the crews arrived on the scene. Authorities also said it was possible the man was struck by another vehicle while lying injured.

The turtle was completely fine.

Florida Highway Patrol spokeswoman Kim Montes told USA Today that while crashes or accidents involving wildlife are relatively common, crashes involving turtles are very rare.

"It's either deer or bear when you hear of an animal involved in an accident," said Montes.

Turtle-related accidents are not unheard of, however. Montes recalled another crash where a driver struck a small turtle in such a way that it was tossed into the windshield of another car. That turtle, was also fine.

Aquatic box turtles are an endangered species in North America, but beloved by many.
