Political leaders across the U.S. reacted to the passing of former Cuban dictator Fidel Castro by pointing out the human rights abuses that occurred during his rule.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, however, released a statement saying he was "mourning the loss of this remarkable leader.”

“Fidel Castro was a larger than life leader who served his people for almost half a century," Trudeau's statement read. "A legendary revolutionary and orator, Mr. Castro made significant improvements to the education and healthcare of his island nation."
“I know my father was very proud to call him a friend and I had the opportunity to meet Fidel when my father passed away. It was also a real honour to meet his three sons and his brother President Raúl Castro during my recent visit to Cuba.”
Trudeau's reaction to Castro's death sparked immediate backlash in Canada and around the world.
One Canadian tweeted saying, "I'm ashamed you just warmly eulogized a murderous dictator instead of remembering his countless victims."
Another Twitter user went so far as to edit the statement for the Canadian leader.
Dear @JustinTrudeau. I fixed your statement on Castro's death for you. #cdnpoli #FidelCasto

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) also chimed in and posted a sarcastic tweet asking if Trudeau's statement was real or a parody.
He then went on to say, "Because if this is a real statement from the PM of Canada it is shameful & embarrassing."
