Rucker said when he fronted Hootie and the Blowfish, they'd showed up at a bar whose entire audience was "two bartenders."

Gretchen Wilson recalled playing a gig in Canada, where there was "a hot tub onstage."

Scotty McCreery once played a McDonald's parking lot: "My pay was like, a McDouble and a fry."

Meghan Linsey told Circa she'd performed at a bass-fishing tourney "with no sound system."

Pam Tillis said she was upstaged by rodeo cows with "more production [value] than me."

And the guys in Parmalee had to follow an act they described as a "naked lady contest."
