Katy Perry posted a photo on her Instagram Friday to share that she had made a hefty donation to Planned Parenthood as a vow to "support organizations that may have their funding support taken from them in the future by the government.”
The “Teenage Dream” singer made a public donation of $10,000.
The singer wrote in her post that it was “time to turn words into action” and went on to explain how her donation was dedicated to her teenage self “who made several visits” to clinics in order to educate herself about sexual health.
'It's time to turn words into action," she wrote.
Katy Perry's message
In her Instagram essay, the 32-year-old singer described how the newfound knowledge helped her focus on her dreams of pursuing music until she knew she was ready to plan for a family, writing that if she hadn’t educated herself, she may have ended up living a different life.
“Since then, I have been able to focus wholeheartedly on bringing messages of strength and becoming a voice for others," she wrote.
People have been praising Katy Perry on social media.
Donald Trump's take on Planned Parenthood
Throughout his campaign, president-elect Donald Trump vowed to defund Planned Parenthood and end Obamacare.
"Planned Parenthood should absolutely be defunded. I mean if you look at what’s going on with that, it’s terrible. And many of the things should be defunded and many things should be cut," he said in a 2015 interview with Fox News' Chris Wallace.
Trump's win has fueled donations and increased demands for IUDs.
"GET AN IUD TOMORROW."
"In honor of Donald Trump's presidency, I just made a donation to Planned Parenthood."
“These doors stay open,” Planned Parenthood tweeted.
