President-elect Donald Trump seemed open on Friday to compromising on the promise to repeal Obamacare in its entirety after he spoke to the president during a visit to the Oval Office, reports CNN.
Such a position would most likely put Trump at odds with those who voted for him, given that repealing Obamacare entirely was a major promise he made during his campaign for the presidency.
"Either Obamacare will be amended, or repealed and replaced," Trump said. "I told him I will look at his suggestions, and out of respect, I will do that."
Trump did say as much once during the primaries.
This departure from what appeared to be an iron-clad part of his platform has given those concerned about a Trump presidency a reason to believe that he try and fulfill his more controversial campaign promises.
Trump wants to revise Obamacare but keep a lot of key components. Y'all. I think Trump legitimately played the middle class.— not mark (@MarkCharlesVI) November 12, 2016
Many on social media are pointing out the hypocrisy of such a compromise.
TRUMP: "So I'm going to repeal and replace Obamacare."— Russ Bengtson (@russbengtson) November 11, 2016
OBAMA: "Replace it with what?"
TRUMP: "You know I kinda like Obamacare"
And of course, Twitter found the funny side of the issue.
