One of the 276 schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram in 2014 was found Saturday by the Nigerian army, according to CNN

The girl, identified as Maryam Ali Maiyanga, was discovered carrying a 10-month-old son. They were among a group that escaped Boko Haram and hit out in the Sambisa Forest.

"This morning as part of the operation we've been conducting, we rescued one of the Chibok girls. ... Our troops in Pulka rescued her along with a Boko Haram member," Maj. Gen. Lucky Irabor told the press.

The army's announcement comes nearly a month after 21 Chibok girls were freed thanks to a deal made by Switzerland and the International Committee of the Red Cross.

In addition, one of the missing girls was found in May after she wandered out of the forest asking for help. She is still receiving trauma counseling at a military hospital in Abuja.

The kidnappings sparked global outrage and prompted a social media campaign using the hashtag #BringBackOurGirls.

Approximately 196 of the Chibok schoolgirls are still unaccounted for.

Boko Haram is connected to ISIS

Throughout the past seven years, some 20,000 people have been killed at the hands of Boko Haram.

Boko Haram is tied to ISIS and pledged allegiance to the group in March of 2015.
