A well-known, hijab-wearing beauty blogger is the latest brand ambassador for the cosmetics company CoverGirl.
Nura Afia's role is tied o the brand's "So Lashy" campaign, for which she will appear in CoverGirl commercials and on billboards in Times Square, according to CNN.
For Afia, and the Mulsim community, this is a major milestone.
This is CoverGirl's latest push to promote diversity.
In October, James Charles was named the company's first male ambassador.
I grew up being insecure about wearing the hijab, and I never thought I would see Muslim women represented on such a large scale.
Afia currently has more than 200,000 subscribers to her YouTube channel and more than 300,000 followers on her Instagram account.
She told CNN that CoverGirl reached out to her in October about doing a commercial.
The other faces of "So Lashy" include two black women, an Asian-American woman and Latina actress Sofia Vergara.
"We've always stood for inclusive beauty that supports any and all types," CoverGirl wrote in an Instagram post featuring the brand ambassadors.
