A building at 432 Park Ave, center, is seen from Central Park in Manhattan, New York, Thursday, Feb. 18, 2016. The last few years have seen the rise of the supertall, a building standing more than 300 meters high. New technologies have allowed the buildings to have footprints no more than the width of a brownstone or two, a far cry from the massive city block an older building like the Empire State Building requires. The FBI is investigating potential terror threats in three states prior to Election Day

The FBI and the NYPD are investigating reports of possible terror attacks in the U.S. on the day before the election, according to CBS News.

U.S. Intelligence told Joint Terrorism Task Forces that al-Qaeda might be planning separate attacks in at least three different states on Monday.

It is believed New York, Texas and Virginia are all possible targets.

No specific locations within the states have been mentioned, nor have potential targets been discussed.

The FBI said in a statement that it will "continue to work closely with law enforcement and intelligence community partners to identify and disrupt any potential threat to public safety."

Tuesday is election day in the United States. Both Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton and Republican candidate Donald Trump plan to hold their election parties in New York City.
