Michael Grace, 28, and two other men tried to rob a Pizza Hut in Charlotte, N.C. early Sunday morning.
Grace was shot and killed by an Pizza Hut employee armed with a personal handgun, police said.
Detectives said the restaurant was closed ( it was about 1:40 a.m.) and no customers were inside. The attempted robber's handgun was taken from the scene. The two other suspects fled and have not been arrested.

The Pizza Hut employee, who has not been publicly identified, was placed on leave after the incident, Pizza Hut said in a statement.
