Mike McQueary, a former football coach at Penn State University, was awarded $7.3 million by a jury
McQueary said the university defamed him after it became public that his testimony helped prosecutors charge Jerry Sandusky with child sex abuse.
The Centre Daily Times reports that the jury deliberated for around four hours after over a week of testimony.
During the Sandusky trial, McQueary was put on leave and eventually his contract wasn't renewed.
Though Penn State argued that McQueary caused his own damages, the jury sided with the former coach.
A judge will soon rule to see if PSU took retaliatory action when it failed to renew the contract.
At least Pitt beat Penn State. So did Mike McQueary. McQueary was never the bad guy, &now a court agreed.— Mark Madden (@MarkMaddenX) October 28, 2016
Some online were happy to see McQueary rewarded damages.
And some, well...not as much.
