It's kind of surprising it took humanity this long, but it's finally happening. M&M'S announced a new caramel flavor, hitting stores in May 2017.
The popular candy turns 75 this year and has been adding new flavors to its roster, including the recently announced "coffee nut." The new caramel-filled M&M's contain 190 calories per serving.
It was a big technological challenge for us ... We had to figure out how to not make the chocolate too sticky or too soft that it could collapse.
Hank Izzo, Mars Chocolate vice president of research and development, said the caramel filling took "years" to develop.
The huge investment for a seemingly simple decision drew some mocking.
