The U.S. clown phenomenon has gone international.
A knife-wielding man in a clown mask stabbed a teenager in southern Sweden on Thursday, reports the New York Daily News.
The teenage victim screamed for help, scaring the attacker off. The victim suffered a minor wound to his or her shoulder. The stabber has continued to elude authorities according to reports from Friday night.
Many Americans may be surprised (and terrified) to learn that Sweden has also been experiencing a spate of clown sightings in recent weeks.
Swedish authorities think that the clown phenomenon spread to Sweden through social media posts originating in the United States.
This clown thing? We have clowns attacking people here in Sweden. I've never liked clowns.— @sweden / Maral (@sweden) October 14, 2016
The Swedes seem to be equally disdainful towards clowns (thank goodness).
If these clowns are coming to Sweden BOY BYE IM GOING TO SPACE— jasmine (@nooraamaliee) October 5, 2016
Some think they can escape. But apparently killer clowns know no boundaries.
