The hiker suffered cuts, scratches and puncture wounds.
Whoops! Excuse me!
Hiker Dan Richman was running on a wilderness trail in California on Monday when he came face-to-face with not one but two bears in heat.
He saw one of the bears standing on its hind legs 50 to 100 feet ahead of him, he told KABC.
The man tried to back away, but when he turned around the other bear was right behind him.
First time seeing a bear, gets two
It was his first time seeing a bear in person. "I was pretty freaked out," he tells KTLA.
Richman yelled and attempted to walk off the trail, but Richman tell KCAL-TV the second bear attacked him when he tried to run past.
He wound up on his hands and knees with a one of the bear's mouth around his neck.
Wildlife officials say Richman may have interrupted a mating session.
