PlayStation's long-awaited virtual reality headset hit shelves today

Gamers have been waiting to get their hands on one of these headsets since 2015.

Where to get your hands on the PlayStation VR headset

The Playstation VR headset is available for purchase in the United States, the UK and Canada.

The launch also includes  a bunch of new games, including Batman: Arkham VR and Thumper.

You will still need a Playstation 4 (PS4) in order to use the headset.

  • Playstation VR (Price: $399.99)
  • Playstation VR launch bundle (Price: $499.99)

How does the PlayStation VR headset work?

It's the add-on device the company is calling "the next generation [of] virtual reality gaming experience," according to a description on PlayStation's website.

The headset hooks up to the PS4 via USB and connects to the Processor Unit with a hybrid HDMI.

IHS Technology says 4 million VR headsets were in use in 2015.

That number is expected to jump to 81 million by 2020.
