WATCH | It may look like a sweet little yellow daisy, but oh no, don't let it fool you.
Chew on the Szechuan buzz flower (Acmella oleracea), then take a sip of the Electric Daisy cocktail at 1212 in Santa Monica.
And then wait for your mouth to feel the onslaught.
Fred Ghiassi, the beverage director at 1212, challenged me to two flowers (I died... Not really, but almost).
Ghassi says the Szechuan Buzz is commonly used in Chinese cuisine, but new to Western palates.
The flower strips your tongue of all surface proteins, causing a numbness that lasts up to five minutes.
But when you sip the cocktail, it feels like fuzzy Pop Rocks exploding on your tongue. Party in your mouth!
