The Trump Foundation was ordered to stop fundraising in New York state

The Trump Foundation received a cease-and-desist letter from New York's attorney general.

What the letter means

The notice says the foundation was not properly certified to participate in charitable activities in 2016 and must cease doing so in New York immediately. The certification was tied to financial disclosure statements, according to the notice. The Foundation had 15 days to send its disclosure statements. Under state law, any charity that solicits more than $25,000 a year must register and undergo audits.

The Trump campaign's response was brief.

Here's the New York attorney general's response.
