Only one person running truly understands the struggles of an Akron child born into poverty... The choice is clear.
Basketball superstar and reigning NBA champion LeBron James endorsed Hillary Clinton for president.
In an op-ed posted Sunday night, James wrote that Clinton would be the best candidate to help carry out his goal of lifting his hometown of Akron, Ohio, from poverty.
"I am not a politician, I don't know everything it will take finally to end the violence. But I do know we need a president who brings us together and keeps us unified," James wrote.
He has long been active in philanthropy, including a $41 million grant to help young people pay for college last summer. He also started a reality show to feature entrepreneurs in the Cleveland area.
Ohio is a crucial swing state in this election, so James' endorsement could go far.
Clinton's social media team took notice.
Some found the timing ironic, since Clinton will be in Akron Monday.
The fact that James endorsed anyone at all stood out.
