State Fair Treats recently opened in a Walmart in Plano, Texas and will offer deep-fried delectables from the Texas State Fair year-round.
The fact that a local state fair guy gets tapped on the shoulder by the largest retailer in the world ... is a dream come true.
At the helm is Isaac Rousso who has been a concessionaire and deep-fried expert at the State Fair for 10 years. Walmart approached Rousso with the idea to open restaurants in their stores across the country.
The menu is a treasure trove of fried food, like fried Oreos and foot-long corn dogs.
Rousso has competed in the Big Tex Choice Awards, the State Fair's food competition, for 7 years. He has won three titles, including "most creative" for his State Fair Cookie Fries that are on the State Fair Treats' menu.
The State Fair runs for 24 days but for me, it's 365 days of the year. So as soon as we finish this up, we're going to get started on the next one.
Rousso couldn't divulge what wild fried snacks they have in the works but said they will be back in the kitchen as soon as this year's State Fair wraps up.
