Off an unassuming road, in an unflashy part of San Antonio is Rob The Original Barber Shop. People come here to get seriously intricate and accurate fade portraits by Roberto Ferrel, Rob The Original himself.

Barbering Found Me

Rob said he is a natural-born artist, drawing since he was a kid. After working at a handful of unsatisfying odd jobs, he found cutting hair 11 years ago.

Rob The Original, Experimenting

Rob wanted to mesh his love of portrait drawing and hair-cutting, so he started experimenting on his younger brother. His first hair portrait was of Tupac.

His hair art has grown more detailed over the years, adding paint to make them pop.

He has no art training, just a steady hand and a penchant for drawing people.

After realizing his talent, he started sharing it across social media, quickly gaining followers. He now has 400,000 followers on Instagram. His work is so in demand that his cuts start at $500.
