A homeless man who found bombs in New Jersey was given a home and offered jobs

Lee Parker just wanted a new backpack. So when he and his friend Ivan White found one in a trash can on Sept. 17th in Elizabeth, N.J., he reached for it -- until he realized it contained an explosive.

Now, Parker, who had been homeless for years, lives in an apartment and has received job offers after being hailed as a hero, The Washington Post reports.

Donald Goncalves, a lifelong Elizabeth resident, hosted a GoFundMe that raised $29,000 for Parker and White in a week.

Hero? No. I wouldn't go that far. [I was] doing the right thing.

Goncalves is now effectively a spokesman for the men, who have been invited to talk shows and NFL pregame ceremonies.

The Elizabeth Coalition to House the Homeless already found Parker an apartment, and he's entertaining job offers - but he had to miss one interview because he was being questioned by law enforcement.

It's chump change for what he did for us. It's just a token for him to understand how significant his contribution was to society.

Goncalves, who split the GoFundMe money between Parker, White and the ECHH, downplayed his efforts to help Parker and White.

So what's Parker doing with his money? He told the Los Angeles Times he got a steak dinner - and he now owns two backpacks.

Parker and White aren't the only people who weren't fazed by the bombs
