UPDATE 2:45 PM Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016
TMZ is now reporting that the child abuse allegations against Brad Pitt have been referred to the FBI.
According to TMZ: "LAPD's Abused Child Unit (ACU) got the report, but determined that the Department did not have jurisdiction because the alleged incident occurred in the air, on a flight from France to the U.S."
"Our LAPD sources say because the incident occurred in the air, the FBI has jurisdiction. The ACU then closed its file and referred the matter to the FBI," continued TMZ.
UPDATE 11:35 AM Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016
According to a sergeant from the LAPD, Brad Pitt is not under investigation for child abuse.
Sgt. Barry Montgomery told The Hollywood Reporter Thursday morning: "We are not investigating any case, nor do we have any allegations against Mr. Pitt."
"We understand how rumors get spun up and hopefully we can put a few of them to rest," Montgomery continued.
The original report from TMZ stated that Pitt was under investigation by the LAPD for "getting verbally abusive and physical with his children."
According to TMZ, actor Brad Pitt is currently under investigation for child abuse by the LAPD following an alleged incident on a private jet last Wednesday.
TMZ reported: "Sources familiar with the situation tell us, Brad, Angelina and their kids were on a flight last Wednesday when he allegedly got wasted on the private jet. He allegedly went wild, screaming and getting physical with the kids."
Neither Jolie nor Pitt has commented on these allegations.
This decision was made for the health of the family.
The divorce announcement
The news of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's divorce came to light on Tuesday. In court documents obtained by TMZ, the date of separation is listed as September 15, 2016.
Attorney Robert Offer released a statement saying that the divorce was for the health of the family. Pitt also released a statement to People magazine, saying his children's well-being mattered most.
Rumors about the reason
There's a storm of speculation about the divorce announcement. Initial rumors blamed an affair, pointing fingers at both Pitt's ex, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Pitt's "Allied" co-star, Marion Cotillard.
However, TMZ reported: "We're told there was no alleged 'third person.' Her decision to file was solely over Brad's interaction with their children."
On Thursday, TMZ followed up their report with news that the LAPD and L.A. County Dept. of Children and Family Services are investigating Pitt for child abuse.
Marion Cotillard's response to cheating allegations
Despite TMZ's report that a third person was not involved in the divorce, some began to harass Cotillard on Instagram. Cotillard responded in a post on Wednesday evening.
"To all the media and the haters who are quick to pass judgment, I sincerely wish you a swift recovery," she wrote. Cotillard also announced that she was expecting a baby with her husband, Guillaume Canet.
