Twitter stopped counting images, videos and quotes against the 140-character limit

Twitter's long-awaited update to its 140-character limit doesn't count photos, videos, GIFs, polls, @replies and quoted tweets. It's not clear yet how many additional assets you can add to tweets. 

It was initially  announced in May amidst rumors the character limit could increase, possibly to 10,000 characters.

Unsurprisingly, Twitter users were pretty happy about this.

And some immediately jumped to jokes.

Some intrepid users tested the limits.

But some users said Twitter was deflecting from real issues.
