Apple plays whack-a-mole censoring porn GIFs that are popping up in iMessage

What's the best part of iPhone's iOS 10 update? The cool new Messages app, of course, particularly because it lets you find and send GIFs without leaving your bubble-to-bubble conversation.

Of course, this is Apple, so we know the fun of this feature stops at typical XXX-related GIF searches -- "dick," "boobs," etc -- which are blocked by the app.

But since the app's launch, Apple has been in damage-control mode, widening the list of general blocked keyword searches to include less offensive words like "huge" and "butt," because some explicit GIFs were sneaking through in those searches.

'Huge' is not allowed

As reported by Deadspin, a search for "huge" in Messages' GIF finder was surfacing a hardcore porn GIF that featured a large ... yada yada yada ... being ... yada yada yada'd.

In response, Apple blocked searches for "huge" Thursday afternoon.

(Apple's Messages GIF search function is powered by Bing.)

A My Little Pony porn GIF got 'butt' blocked

After it was publicized that a search for "butt" was pulling up a My Little Pony cartoon porn GIF in the app, Apple banned "butt" GIF searches.

Here's The Guardian's description of the now-blocked GIF:

"The anthropomorphised moving image shows Fluttershy bent over and pulling down her underwear. Her head is turned back towards the viewer displaying what looks like an expression of shame or embarrassment and which transforms into a coquettish smile once the underwear is down."

Ace Ventura
(Giphy)

Pro tip: With "butt" blocked, you can still find a GIF of Ace Ventura speaking out of rear if you simply search "Ace Ventura" -- it's one of the first results that pops up.

Some other iffy GIF searches that are now banned on Messages:

  • underwear
  • schlong
  • humping
  • doggy style
  • nude
  • wanker
  • intercourse

Enjoy searching for GIFs with these keywords while you can:

  • pee
  • thong
  • banging
  • twerking
  • bulge
  • sexy
  • shower
  • oral
  • spank

Apple being Apple

It should come as no surprise that Apple has chosen to censor its GIF search feature -- Apple co-founder Steve Jobs was vehemently against the idea of Apple computers and devices being used for porn.

And the company has continued to censor pornography and content that's "offensive... or in exceptionally poor taste" from its App Store after Jobs' death in 2011.

Should porn GIFs be censored from iMessage?

No fun? No way.

And by the way, though you can't send racy GIFs with  iOS Messages, you can certainly download them and attach them to texts to send them over  the Messages app.

Just saying.
