This hand-painted sign in Boothbay Harbor, Maine has angered tourists.
A private landowner put up the sign, which reads "Black Rifles Matter" in front of his house.
The local chamber of commerce has received complaints about the sign, but authorities said there's not much they can do. Linc Sample, the homeowner, has the proper permits and is exercising his First Amendment rights.
The phrase on the sign is an obvious play on the title and mantra of Black Lives Matter. Sample told NECN that his sign is inspired by their slogan and that the group should be flattered he used the phrase.
Sample is adamant his sign has everything to do with gun rights and nothing to do with race. He posted the sign after reading an ad in the local paper that supported a ban on assault rifles.

Defend Colin Kaepernick for using free speech.
Become hysterical over a "Black Rifles Matter" sign on private property.
Some Twitter users were quick to take Sample's defense.
