It's possible to have both presidential candidates on the same stage in the same night without it being a presidential debate.

NBC will air the "Commander-in-Chief Forum" on Wednesday night, and both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump will field questions about national security and veterans' issues.

On Tuesday, retired Army Lt. Gen. Mark Hertling blasted Trump's plan, calling it "sophomoric".

Meanwhile, 88 former military leaders signed a letter backing Trump on Tuesday, CNN reports. Earlier this summer, 50 security experts signed a pledge not to vote for Trump.
