Democrats in Congress have long suspected Russia was behind the Democratic National Committee hack and the release of a batch of emails before the party's convention.
And now those Democrats want the FBI to investigate whether Donald Trump was involved in any way, given his ties to Russia, according to an open letter released Tuesday.
The Democrats involved include Reps. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), John Conyers Jr. (D-Mich.), Elliot Engel (D-N.Y.), and Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.).
Serious questions have been raised about overt and covert actions by Trump campaign officials on behalf of Russian interests.
These flailing attacks are a desperate attempt by Hillary Clinton and her Washington allies to distract from weeks of damaging revelations.
Last week, Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nevada) raised similar concerns, The New York Times reports (paywall).
The Trump campaign dismissed the letters. The FBI had no comment but confirmed to CNN it had received the letter.
On Tuesday, Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Kaine raised concerns that based on Trump's business dealings, Russia might be playing a role in the election.
However, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has been cryptic when asked whether Russia was involved in the hack, insisting that his organization does not name its sources.
