There's something blissfully ironic about all this.
Ryan Lochte, the Olympic gold medalist disgraced by lying that he was robbed in Rio, lost many of his sponsors, including Speedo and Ralph Lauren. But now he's sponsored by ROBOCOPP, which claims it makes the "world's smallest SOS alarm."
ROBOCOPP's Sound Grenade is a tiny device about the side of a flash drive. When you pull the pin, it unleashes a very loud alarm: 120-130 decibels, or louder than a rock concert, according to Purdue University. The idea is it's so loud, it will sound the alarm if its user is being attacked, giving them a chance to escape.
Here's a demo of the Sound Grenade on "The Today Show." Listen to how loud it is relative to its pitchman's voice.
Of all the people to endorse RoboCopp, a sound grenade that wards off possible attackers, why is it Ryan Lochte?😂😂😂😂😂— Matthew Hendrickson (@jeezymakesitez) August 31, 2016
The irony was not lost on Twitter.
But others found it strange that Hope Solo was punished more than Lochte.
