Los Angeles residents can now expect to travel from the beach to the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) in record time.
A tunnel boring machine, has dug through the wall of the Martin Luther King Jr. Station, which will be on the Crenshaw/LAX line.
The light rail will be an 8.5-mile route that will run north to south, connecting the Crenshaw district and Leimert Park to Inglewood and the Los Angeles airport. Officials have claimed that the station would increase airport access for travelers. The LAX station would include check-in counters, vendors, flight information boards and even currency exchange counters.
This $1.7 billion dollar project is slated to be completed in 2019. Residents will have more accessible transportation options and be able to go to the beach, downtown and Burbank.
This project will also provide essential economic development, environmental gain and employment throughout the Los Angeles area.
