Bill Gates rules the Top 10 list of the world's richest people. Who else is on the list?

If Bill Gates' mountain of money were a country, it would be bigger than the GDP of 125 countries, according to GDP data tracked by the IMF. He has $13 billion more than second-richest person, according to Bloomberg's Billionaire rankings as of August 23rd, 2016.  

Of the 10 wealthiest people in the world:

  • All of them are men
  • Seven of them are American 
  • Three of them have lost money in the past year to date (the Koch brothers and Carlos Slim)
  • Four made their fortunes within the tech industry

#1: Bill Gates, he only owns 2.5 percent of Microsoft now but has many other investments -- $90.2B

#2: Amancio Ortega, the Spanish owner of the Zara clothing chain -- $77.6B

#3: Warren Buffett, chairman of investment company Berkshire Hathaway -- $67B

#4:Jeff Bezos, chairman and owner of Amazon, the world's biggest online retailer --$66.4B

#5: Mark Zuckerberg, the co-founder and CEO of Facebook -- $54.9B

#6: Charles Koch, chairman and CEO of Koch Industries -- $51.1B

#7: David Koch, executive vice president of Koch Industries -- $51.1B

#8: Carlos Slim, owns America Movil, largest phone operator in the Americas -- $50.9B

#9: Larry Ellison, founder and owner of Oracle, the world's biggest database company -- $45B

#10: Ingvar Kamprad,  owns Ikea, the world's largest furniture retailer -- $45B
