Meal time brings us together, both to our food but also to each other, it builds relationships and communities. However, for people with tremors, Parkinson's and other conditions which cause hand tremors, meals can be an incredibly stressful experience where they have to concentrate solely on the act of eating and little else.
This is because a shaking hand makes it very difficult to get the food from a plate into the mouth without spilling anything. Enter, a new spoon called 'Liftware,' which can help.
Created by Google's "moonshot laboratory," the spoon uses a brand new stabilizing technology to make the experience of eating much smoother and more enjoyable for people with hand tremors.
The spoon is small and portable enough to be carried to a restaurant or to a friend's home, if needed. In a clinical trial, there was a 70% reduction in the amount the utensil shook using the Liftware compared to a regular spoon, during three different eating related tasks.
