Thomas Gibson fired from 'Criminal Minds' after on-set altercation

Thomas Gibson's time on CBS' "Criminal Minds" has officially come to an end.

The 54-year-old actor, who played Supervisory Special Agent Aaron Hotchner in the show, was fired after he kicked a writer. A spokesperson for Gibson said the altercation came as a result of "creative differences," on set.

"Thomas Gibson has been dismissed from Criminal Minds," reads a statement by ABC Studios and CBS Television Studios. "Creative details for how the character's exit will be addressed in the show will be announced at a later date."

Gibson, who had been with the show since its 2005 debut, responded to being fired:

"I love Criminal Minds and have put my heart and soul into it for the last 12 years," he said in a statement to USA Today. "I had hoped to see it through to the end, but that won't be possible now. I would just like to say thank you to the writers, producers, actors, our amazing crew, and, most importantly, the best fans that a show could ever hope to have."
