The Orlando nightclub shooter's father attended a Hillary Clinton rally in Kissimmee, Florida, on Monday, according to USA Today.
Seddique Mateen's son, Omar Mateen, opened fire in a gay nightclub in June, killing 49.
Seddique Mateen told NBC affiliate WPTV that he wanted to attend the rally to show his public support for Clinton.
"Hillary Clinton is good for United States versus Donald Trump, who has no solutions," he told WPTV.
When asked about the Orlando shooter's father attending the rally, the Clinton campaign told the Orlando Sentinel that the rally was a 3,000-person, open-door event.
"The individual wasn't invited as a guest and the campaign was unaware of his attendance until after the event," a campaign spokesperson told the Orlando Sentinel.
During her speech Monday night, Clinton expressed her support for the survivors of the attack and condemned the actions of the shooter.
"We can't ever let that kind of hatred and violence break the spirit and break the soul of any place in America," Clinton said.
